Professor Roberto Maiolino

Roberto Maiolino is Professor in Experimental Astrophysics at the Department of Physics (Cavendish Laboratory) of the University of Cambridge and Director of the Kavli Institute for Cosmology, Cambridge (KICC). He is also Honorary Professor at University College London. He graduated at the University of Florence. Before his professorship in Cambridge he studied at the Steward Observatory of the University of Arizona, he worked at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching (Germany), at the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory of Florence and at the Astronomical Observatory of Rome. His research interests span several themes associated with the formation and evolution of galaxies and of supermassive black holes, which he investigates primarily by using multi-wavelength observations. He has a leading role in various projects such as JWST, new instrumentation for the VLT, and the ELT. In 2019 he was knighted by the Italian President.
